Survey on Religious knowledge

The author of the cited article leaves out one very important fact. Many followers of Islam are insisting on carrying out the Koran edicts through sharia law and other statements in teh Koran. Some Jews today may follow dietary laws but they don't carry out genocide based on biblical edicts. I agree that Judaism does not incite Jews to kill nonbelievers (or anyone else for that matter). And I grant that Islam contains in its Koran dictates for Muslims to do the opposite. I would also grant that Islamic exhortations to violence have contributed to millions of human deaths in wars in the Middle East over just the last few decades. All that granted, I think George's comment misses Leonard Pitts' main point. Pitts' claim is that our nation seems to need an adversary to rally against, having an "endless capacity for irrational panic". I believe this claim is true. We should always remain vigilant to potential harm from militant Islam, but I do NOT believe that it is rational or helpful to start by decrying a religion where the largest majority of its adherents are peaceful members of societies the world around.

Hi Stan, I agree that America likes to have something or someone to fight and many conservatives have chosen Islam as our enemy. But I am troubled with the extremism that exits and dominates Islam. This was clear in “The faith Club” where Ranya talks about not being able to find an Imam that is more in line with her progressive views. All she finds are radicals in charge so she doesn’t go to a Mosque.
